This episode is a struggling time for everyone. Lily's dad is sick so they get Ted to watch baby Marvin for a week. Ted's building just finished so he had a lot of time. Knowing Ted, he went a little overboard and saw Marvin crawl first, made him eat his first spaghetti, and took him to see Santa for the first time without Lily and Marshall. Marshall was pretty calm with the whole thing until he bought Marvin a Ohio shirt. They were pretty mad at him until the realized that since his project closed he was basically projecting those feelings onto Marvin. They scheduled a meeting with a head hunter so he can throw himself into his work again. Also since Barney told Robin he was completely done with her, she's been doing anything and everything to get with him one last time. Just like she wanted to eat lobster when the doctor told her she was allergic. After doing pretty much everything, she just shows up at his house wearing provocative underwear but she finds that he is actually on a real life date with her sworn enemy, the sweet and homely Patricie. This makes her realize that she has gone to far.
