In this episode Marshall and Lily scour the streets of New York City in dire search of a nanny, despite the fact that Lily's father had to move in with them. He burned his house down lighting firecrackers, and constantly offers to be little Marvin's nanny. Lily shuts him down at first, since she never felt like he was there for her. In their search, they found one perfect nanny but unfortunately she was way out of their price range. Barney of course does something dastardly, by wooing Lily and Marshall's second choice and making her decide against watching Marvin for them. In an attempt to reconcile with them he pays for the nanny they couldn't afford but Lily couldn't seem to hand Marvin over to a stranger and end ups up letting her father be his nanny after a heartfelt story of how he took care of Lily when she was a baby. In the midst of all this happening, Robin and Ted have a episode long battle of whose happier in their relationship, then it becomes clear that neither of them are really happy and "future ted" clues us on in that both relationships would end within the month. Personally this shoots my anticipation for the mother to be revealed through the roof.
